“Fortune Cookie Film GmbH” was founded in 2006 by Ulrike Grote and Ilona Schultz. Both met and came to appreciate each other while studying at the Hamburg Film School. Ulrike Grote, at that time already a seasoned and multi-award-winning theatre and television actress, learned the directing trade from Hark Bohm. Her graduation film “Runaway” already won the student Oscar and earned her an Oscar nomination. The “Fortune Cookie Film” stands for the passion of storytelling, discovering strong characters, drawing true-to-life stories and, of course, a good sense of humor. Telling the existential with a wink – that is the strength of all “Fortune Cookie” productions.

Mina Avramova joined the Fortune Cookie in 2012. Born in Sofia, the producer became enthusiastic about cinema at an early age. Already during her studies at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, she organised a festival with Eastern European short films. She then worked as a caster and assistant director, among other things, before joining Ulrike and Ilona's team. At Fortune Cookie she discovered her passion for producing and replaced Ilona Schultz as managing director in 2021. In addition to her work as a producer, she translates scripts and dialogue from Bulgarian into German and vice versa.
